张轲和标准营造于2023年第18届威尼斯建筑双年展军械库主场馆呈现题为“共同生活”的展览。这也是继2016年由亚历杭德罗·阿拉维纳策展的第15届威尼斯建筑双年展之后，张轲和标准营造再一次进入威尼斯建筑双年展的军械库主展区。

本届双年展主题为“未来实验室”，由莱斯利·洛克策划。标准营造的“共同生活”社区构想，由13个项目模型和悬于其上的一件木构装置组成，呈现于军械库主场馆的“危险关系”展览单元之中。

以建筑探索

当代共同生活的积极可能

Towards an active co-living

在社区中共同居住、共享资源，原本就是人类生活历史中的重要组成形式。然而在当下的世界，许多人们依然以被迫的方式居于同一空间中，滋生着分裂、隔离、冲突等关系风险。在标准营造于双年展打造的这座“共同生活”工作坊中，观者将有机会思考，未来如何将“被迫的共同生活”转化为“积极的共同生活”。

一件15米长的木构装置悬挂在军械库展区上方，形成一个具有中国传统园林精神的院落空间。装置表面由北京街头收集的纸箱做成，纸板表面经手工撕开，形成了丰富的质感。该装置的形体来源于标准营造即将完工的杭州肖峰美术馆。与原建筑的混凝土结构不同，这座装置以木结构和金属节点进行了重新表达，探索了木结构作为一种可持续建造方式在未来建筑中的应用可能。

过往重要实践的集中展现

ZAO’s Practices

“共同生活”展区内外布置了13个木质场地、混凝土浇筑的项目模型。观者被邀请与展览团队漫步于此，了解标准营造在过往20余年中的重要建筑项目，探索如何创造积极的共同生活。在观展动线上接连呈现的三个项目系列，合并展示了标准营造对于共同生活的当代诠释。

不同于2016年参展“威双”时聚焦于胡同项目，标准营造此次带来了自成立至今的大部分重要项目。既包括“胡同新陈代谢”系列，通过微型城市更新项目有机促进社区生长；还包括早期的西藏建筑系列，探索如何将共同生活的理想实现于不同民族的文化土壤中；以及近期实践中各种积极的共同生活空间类型案例，如日照社区艺术中心、杭州肖峰美术馆、锐驰园区更新等项目，以及2023年3月完工的云南蒙自西南联大先锋书店。这些项目共同展现了标准营造经过20余年的实践，对于内部与外部、建筑与景观、记忆与身份之间的重要关系的探索与思考。

Zhang Ke/ ZAO presents co-living in Dangerous Liaisons section of the 18th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia in Arsenale. The exhibition is open to the public from May 20 to November 26, 2023. It is the second time Zhang Ke/ ZAO participates in the core exhibition in Arsenale, following Reporting from the Front, which was curated by Alejandro Aravena in 2016.

The exhibition was selected by the curator, Lesley Lokko, as part of The Laboratory of the Future.  Conceived as a co-living workshop, the exhibition invites visitors to ponder in a courtyard which is shaped by a suspended wood-structure mock-up.

Three series of ZAO’s practices are presented with wood and concrete models, located both inside and outside the courtyard. The exhibition aims to reflect upon past works and induce discussions on new aspects of sustainable co-living.

The suspended mock-up is originated in Hangzhou XiaoFeng Art Museum, a ZAO project that will be finished soon. Deviating from the original concrete structure, this mock-up investigates an adaptable and sustainable wood-steel construction system, aiming to shed light on alternative design possibilities for future architecture. The mock-up is covered with woven recycled cardboard, which was peeled by hand and shows varied textures.

This exhibition covers a variety of important projects over the 20-year practice of ZAO, which include the Tibet series, Hutong Metabolism series, recent projects like Rizhao Community Art Center, Hangzhou XiaoFeng Art Museum, Camerich Campus Renovation, as well as Avant-Garde Library in Mengzi that finished in March. These projects reflect upon the vital relationships between interior and exterior, architecture and landscape, memory and identity.
